Press Release: The Drowsy Chaperone at The Candlelight Theatre
The Drowsy Chaperone, a madcap, screwball musical within a comedy, opens March 17 at The Candlelight Theatre. This loving send up to the Jazz Age musical is directed and choreographed by Peter John Rios. It features Connor McAndrews as Man in Chair; Audrey Simmons as the glamorous star, Janet Van De Graaf; Kevin Dietzler as Robert Martin, her oil tycoon fiancé; Tiffany Christopher as Janet’s intoxicated (drowsy) chaperone; Topher Layton as the womanizing cad, Adolpho; Lindsay Mauck, the flighty, eccentric and funny Mrs. Tottendale; and Anthony Connell as her unflappable butler. Frank Schierloh is Broadway show producer, Mr. Feldzeig; Christina Fuscellaro is Kitty, the ditsy chorine; Max Redman and Tori Healy are gangsters posing as pastry chefs; Shaun Yates is George, the bumbling best man; and Tiara Greene is the brave and brash aviatrix, Trix. The company is rounded out by Elias Rivera, Faith Sacher, and Erin Waldie. Eric Longo is Musical Director, costumes are by Timm Cannon, scenic design is by Jeff Reim, lighting is by Mike Cristello and wig, hair and makeup design is by Lisa Challenger. With a book by Robert Martin and Don McKellar, and music and lyrics by Lisa Lambert and Greg Morrison, The Drowsy Chaperone took the 2006 Tony Awards by storm winning 5 Tony Awards including Best Book of a Musical and Best Original Score.
The Drowsy Chaperone runs Saturday, March 17 through Sunday, April 22. Performances are Friday and Saturday evening (doors open at 6:00 pm) and Sunday afternoon (doors open at 1:00 pm). There is no performance Sunday, April 1. There is a Thursday evening performance April 12 (doors open at 6:00 pm) and two Wednesday matinees (with extremely limited availability), March 21 and April 18 (doors open at 11:00 am). All tickets include dinner and show and are $60 for adults and $33 for children. Group rates are available for groups of 15 or more.
There will be a Relaxed Performance of The Drowsy Chaperone, Saturday April 14. This is a show-only matinee performance with doors opening at 12:30 and show at 1:00 pm. A Relaxed Performance provides a Sensory-Friendly, judgment-free zone where all are welcome to be who they are. Some adjustments will be made so that individuals with sensory sensitivities and those with ADD, ADHD, Asperger’s Syndrome, Autism, dementia and learning differences – or anyone who would benefit from a relaxed environment – can enjoy the magic of live theatre with their families and friends. We welcome all to this non-judgmental environment in a ‘no-shush zone.’ Tickets are $30 for adults and $15 for children.
