Dan Forrest’s Jubilate Deo brings to life the global aspect of the traditional Psalm 100 text,
“O be joyful in the Lord, all ye lands,” by setting it in seven different languages and drawing from a wide spectrum of musical influences.
Dello Joio’s, A Jubilant Song, was first performed in 1946, Dello Joio adapted texts from Walt Whitman’s “A Song of Joys,” Book XI of the poet’s Leaves of Grass. The composition operates on several frames of reference. It reflects both the vigor and sweep of Whitman’s texts and the optimism that followed the end of World War II.
