Body Aesthetic Photo Project
Body Aesthetic is a brand-new devised theatrical production produced by Theatrical Trainer. Premiering in the 2018 Philadelphia Fringe Festival, Body Aesthetic is Philadelphia’s first city-wide performance narrative exploring body image, dysmorphia and approaches to wellness.
This October, Theatrical Trainer is inviting members of the Philadelphia community and beyond to participate in the Body Aesthetic development process through a photography project aimed to gain insight and testimony from a wide range of voices. On Saturday, October 14, 2017, Theatrical Trainer will host a Photo Day at Plays & Players Theatre in Philadelphia.
“Having input from people in the Philadelphia community is an integral part of the Body Aesthetic development process. We want to create a piece that is universal yet personal and, in order to do that, we need to hear about experiences that go beyond those of the artists creating the piece.” states Theatrical Trainer founder, Peter Andrew Danzig.
“As an organization, Theatrical Trainer hopes to connect with surrounding communities and organizations in our city. It’s important for us to engage the community throughout the process of creating Body Aesthetic, from the very beginning to the fully realized piece. Everyone’s story needs to be heard. The Body Aesthetic Photo Day grew out of that desire to build a connection between the people of Greater Philadelphia and this new work we’re creating.”
Photo Day Details
Date: Saturday, October 14, 2017
Time: Stop in anytime between 10:00 AM and 7:00 PM
Location: Plays & Players Theatre, 1714 Delancey Pl, Philadelphia, PA 19103
During this time, members of the artistic community and Philadelphia at-large are invited to participate in the development process by taking a personal photo with a professional photographer while holding signs that describe their own relationships to their bodies. The photos will be displayed in a public gallery show held in conjunction with Body Aesthetic and may also be used in the theatrical production of Body Aesthetic.
The public can also contribute to the development process by completing an anonymous survey describing their ideas of body image, healthy bodies, body dysmorphia and the ways media influences how people view their bodies.
The information gathered from these sessions and surveys will help to shed light on some important topics rarely discussed at the regional theater level and will also inform and become the basis of development for the Body Aesthetic project.
