Event Review: Uno Pizzeria & Grill Celebration Dinner
My evening at the UNO Pizzeria & Grill Celebration Dinner event was unexpected and very enjoyable. UNO partnered with local favorite, Conshohocken Brewing Company, to pair home brews with each course. I always like to try and explore new things especially when it come to food, so when presented with an evening out that could mask as a date night, I jumped at the opportunity!
I was given the menu prior to our visit and I’m not gonna lie, I was a little apprehensive. But, a night out with my boyfriend and no kids, I couldn’t complain. When we got to the table, to my surprise, we were sat with other people. All seemed deep into their own conversations so I was content with the environment and was able to focus on the food and my own company.
We were greeted with the first course: Maple Spiced Popcorn and Caramelized Dates with Walnuts and Goat Cheese atop a Crostini. Flavored popcorn is always something I enjoy, especially with a sweet taste. The Crostini was something new for me as I’m not a connoisseur of dates and walnuts, but a pleasant shock, I liked it. I would maybe have done a little less of the dates as it was a tad on the sweeter end but the mixture of the dates and goat cheese was a nice balance. The Squash-Smoked Pumpkin Oatmeal Porter could not have been more perfect to compliment the dish!
It is one of my new favorite beers!
We moved on to the Split Pea soup which I was certain this wasn’t something I would want to taste. My image of what I was gonna taste lined up with when my babies tried pea purees for the first time and spit it out all over the high chair. My real-life experience was quite the contrary. With my first bite, it was my favorite part of the whole dinner! From the texture to the taste it couldn’t have been more perfect! The Puddlers Row beer complimented this course and enhanced all the flavors of the soup.
By this point in the night, I couldn’t wait for what was coming next. Plum Sauce Glazed Ham with Scallion Butter Roasted Potatoes and a Chilled Asparagus Almond Salad! Oh, I almost forgot to mention the Pea Soup was so delightful it was the conversation starter of our table! When we got to the main course between the beer and the other courses I was beginning to get full. With that, I ate every bit of the ham because it was just too good to put my fork down. Now the Artax Lives-Sour Saison Aged in Tequila Barrels that came with this course is not one I would try again. Way too sour a beer for me! But others at my table enjoyed it. So, to each his own!
Dessert was Bread Pudding Infused with Beer. The flavor of the beer with the bread pudding was a great surprise. Between the food, conversation and environment we didn’t want to leave. In fact, we didn’t! Joined the nightlife at the bar and stayed until 1am! My Thursday date night turned into an exceptional time with new friends and new taste. Looking forward to the next Celebration Dinner slated for March.
