FIGHTING THE BATTLE AND WINNING THE WAR WITH PREMIERE OF HEAR ME WAR
3rd Annual Philadelphia Women’s Theatre Festival: August 2 – 6, 2017 at Caplan Studio Theater at the University of the Arts Ira Brind School of Theater Arts
Philadelphia, PA. July 14, 2017 – Philadelphia Women’s Theatre Festival (PWTF) announces the bill for the third annual festival, headlined by the original musical Hear Me War written by Sarah Galante with Co-Composer Jaime Jarett and directed by Elaina Di Monaco. The celebratory festival also includes three staged readings, an opening night cabaret, and a women’s comedy showcase. PWTF invites you to war with us at festival performances from August 2nd – 6th at Caplan Studio Theater at the University of the Arts on South Broad.
Hear Me War explores the current dysfunctional political climate as it follows a group of feminists who fear for their lives during an unstable time. These feminists, vulnerable yet strong, come together and march on foot to Washington, D.C. to fight the arduous battle of dismantling the patriarchy. Hear Me War is a battle cry and stands up for all people on the never-ending push for equality.
Produced through The Women’s Playwriting Cooperative, Hear Me War has undergone a yearlong development including a series of rehearsals, revisions and performances. “Being able to find a home for Hear Me War in a space dedicated to the support and exposure of female artists has been an invaluable artistic experience” says Playwright and Performer, Sarah Galante. “In working with the Philadelphia Women’s Theatre Festival, we have found a space of comfort, acceptance, and an unrelenting persistence in finding the truth within our story.”
PWTF is dedicated to creating opportunities for women in theatre by fostering an environment that thrives on collaboration. As it continues to build a diverse community while recognizing how invaluable women are to the arts, PWTF works toward supporting and cultivating works that take the theatre world one step closer to inclusivity. This August, PWTF will let the battle cry roar, “I am woman, hear me war.”
