Vetri Family Unveils Bar Amis In The Navy Yard
PHILADELPHIA, PA Vetri Family of Restaurants announces the opening of their newest concept, Bar Amis, in Philadelphia’s Navy Yard. The space, which formerly housed Vetri Family Restaurant Lo Spiedo, is helmed by longtime Executive Chef Brad Spence, also executive chef at the beloved Amis Trattoria, with locations in Philadelphia and Westport, CT. Bar Amis will draw inspiration from the family-recipe driven menu of its more formal parent restaurant Amis, with newly interpreted variations on classic Roman dishes, all offered in a lively, yet laidback atmosphere.
“At Bar Amis, we’re taking the same authentic and approachable dishes that our guests have returned for over the years, and reimagining them in ways that are easily shareable and fun,” says Spence. “Bar Amis will be the perfect place for people to come have a drink and a bite after work or enjoy a Saturday evening out. And, the fun atmosphere, combined with the space will make it a great gathering place for any occasion.”
Guests will recognize the spirit of Italian home cooking that has come to define the Amis brand, presented in a more casual format in the Navy Yard. The restaurant will feature a menu of fresh starters and salads, elevated sandwiches and robust entrée plates, all with a focus on simplicity and seasonality. Signature starters include aselection of toasts such as Fresh Ricotta with Fig Jam, upgraded takes on bar snacks like Chicken Wings with Calabrian chili and Amis Nachos along with sandwiches including Sal’s Old School Meatball Sandwich and Chicken Salad with preserved lemon and parsley. Entrée sized salads such as a Kale Caesar are available, alongside larger plates of signature homemade pastas like the Bucatini with almonds and peppers, and proteins like the fan-favorite Pork Chop Parmesan and Grilled Octopus. Bar Amis will also host an evening Happy Hour from Monday through Thursday featuring drink specials and a crave-able menu of bar snacks like Cacio e Pepe French Fries and Fried Cauliflower.
The Bar Amis beverage program, led by Vetri Family Beverage Director Steve Wildy, will feature expertly-blended and specialty cocktails like seasonal Frosé and Sicilian Lemonade, created with housemade limoncello, all alongside expansive offerings of non-alcoholic selections like fruity Garden Spritzers, Iced Teas and housemade Ginger Beer. A diverse beer list highlights brews from Philadelphia and surrounding areas in addition to an eclectic menu of international wines by the glass.
Vetri Family’s Lo Spiedo concept will be transformed into Bar Amis, and continue to reflect its history as the gatehouse to the Philadelphia Navy Yard. The Federal style two-story space features an open plan first-floor dining room and bar, with additional dining space on the second floor. The space boasts a sprawling outdoor terrace with seating for 75 offering expansive views of the shipyard and a private dining space that can accommodate up to 25 guests.
Bar Amis is located at 4503 S. Broad Street in the Philadelphia Navy Yard. The restaurant is open for lunch and dinner Monday through Thursday, 11am to 9pm, Friday 11am to 10pm and Saturday, 5pm to 10pm. Reservations are not required, but can be made via OpenTable.
